Rapidly melting snow can lead to ice damming, and if your gutters are backed up and the water does not drain from the roof correctly it can also cause black ice around your home or commercial building. The last thing you want is a slip and fall accident to start the good weather!
What can you do to get your roofing gutters ready to handle melting snow?
1) Clean Your Gutters: Make sure your gutters are clear of debris and are not clogged with ice. Water must be able to flow freely.
2) Inspect Your Drainage System: The heavy winds of winter can cause cracks or gaps in the drainage pipes. Inspect them visually for any issues.
3) Ensure Roof Gutters Lead Away From Home: To prevent black ice around your home or commercial building, ensure the end of the drainage leads water at least 8 to 12 feet away from the foundation of the building.
With these simple tips, you can ensure your roof is all set to prepare itself for Spring 2013. Cleaning and repairing roof gutters can be a task you do not have the time or inclination to take on yourself this winter.
